Our Message to Acen: Play Umineko.

Greetings! There are two ways to play Umineko in its ideal state. Those are the Umineko Project or the Steam version from mangagamer with the 07th patch.

Both versions include the PS3 sprites (generally considered the best – see a comparison of the sprites available below), the fantastic soundtrack, and the stellar full-voice acting. We believe that, in addition to the story, the BGM and voice acting are essential parts of the Umineko experience.

From left to right: OG drawn by the author, PS3 sprites, steam sprites. Fun game: guess which one’s the worst person!

The Umineko Project is a full port of the PS3 version of the game, which features enhanced animations and full lip sync. It can be configured to play on PC, mac, IOS, android, and linux. We believe it to be the superior of the two options, but it does require some setup. You will need to download the resource, resource update, script, and game engine files from the website below, place them in the same folder, and run the chosen game engine to play. Please download the files here: https://umineko-project.org/en/downloads/

In addition, since this is a fan port, you are asked to support the initial release by purchasing the PC release of Umineko no Naku Koro ni EP4, and the PS3 release of Umineko no Naku Koro ni Rondo. A code created from those two sources is used as an extraction code. See this page for more details: https://umineko-project.org/en/copyright-message/. Instructions on how to purchase these games are here: https://umineko-project.org/buyumi.html

Please do not sail the high seas, or at the very least monetarily support the official release if you do. As you will soon learn, only rats of the most nefarious and blue-haired nature engage in piracy.

If you wish to play the modded steam release, the process is simpler. Purchase these two games: https://store.steampowered.com/app/406550/Umineko_When_They_Cry__Question_Arcs/ and https://store.steampowered.com/app/639490/Umineko_When_They_Cry__Answer_Arcs/. Then follow the instructions and download the mod here: https://07th-mod.com/wiki/Umineko/Umineko-Getting-started/

Do not hesitate to toss a comment down below if you’re having trouble with part of this process, and the two of us will help you out as best we’re able.

Thank you, and please enjoy what we, and many others, consider to be “peak fiction”.

Umineko’s Episode 3 is WILD

In a poll on the subreddit r/umineko, episode 3, Banquet of the Golden Witch, ranked the highest out of all question arc options, coming in third, behind Requiem and Twilight, the last two episodes in the series proper.  I take this to mean that the 184 voters, all presumably readers of the VN themselves, share the opinion that I will posit here – that episode 3 is so good partially because it has some WACK possibility spaces.

By this I mean that what is truly happening in that episode, the events of the mystery hiding behind the magic, is incredibly interesting, dramatic, and I wanna talk about it.  Below, I will be resurrecting all of Rokkenjima’s replayers, bringing them to their fate, and discharging my dreams vis a vis the Banquet of the Golden Witch.

Introduction and Beginning to Look at the Umineko Manga

Hello all and welcome to the inaugural post on this tiny website!
To start off, a general introduction to what I intend to do here.

My goal with this page is to document my journey through the manga adaption of Umineko no Naku Koro ni. Just about four months ago, I completed the visual novels, and ever since I’ve been eager to dive back in for the second round. Rather than go through over 100 hours of visual novel again, I thought the manga with its notable efforts at making the solution to Umineko more clear would be a great place to start.

And so, here I am. With hopefully something resembling a regular pace, I intend to go through the manga chapter by chapter and seeing where my knowledge of the story via the VN and a hefty amount of analysis by others gets me. There is no central thesis to any of what will follow, just observation, musing, and wherever my analytical skills can bring me.

I will be beginning with a look at the first chapter of the manga. While I don’t think there’s a whole lot of exciting stuff going on here, it is as good a place as any to start.

And for those who haven’t yet completed Umineko, be warned! Spoilers will be dropped left and right, so be careful if you wish to preserve your Umineko experience.
