This is a project to create, well, this website. This will probably be in progress indefinitely, though I may reconsider that if I reach a point where it's mostly feature complete and am only adding content. I imagine however that things will always be tweaked, moved around or consolidated as needs change.
This site was officially born on May 5th, 2025, though the domain and server had existed for a few years prior. The creation of it was more or less a statement of 'I will do something with this and this is what it will be,' as prior projects here never really went anywhere and/or I lost interest. As mentioned elsewhere, I was inspired by a bunch of retro-styled neocities/angelfire websites I ran across in the months prior and figured hey, I can do something like this. The relatively simplified presentation and lack of a need for a true backend or javascript frameworks was appealing, so with a surge of nostalgia fueled motivation I set about the task. As linked elsewhere, I came across petrapixel's layout generator and used that as a base. The overall grid layout more or less remains, along certain things like the background gif, and a good amount of the base css. A significant amount has been added or heavily modified since (much of which is behind the scenes kinds of stuff), leading us to where we are today, with more on the horizon.
Currently the github repository for this is private, though with the exception of some ruby plugins most of the relevant content can be inspected in well enough in the browser. I may make it public eventually, but in order to do so I'll need to rethink how many of the assets exist, which is not a difficult problem to solve, just one I'm not interested in at present.
Also, there won't be a gallery for this project right now, as the site itself is more or less the gallery. Update posts may include specific screenshots for illustration or comparison's sake, but I'm not sure about a gallery here for anything other than a historical update of major ui/changes or page introductions, that sort of thing. That would be a future endeavor though, as I would need to go back and spin up local versions of older commits to obtain relevant screenshots. Unfortunately the git history is a bit of a mess and finding the substantial commits may be difficult, though I'm hoping to mitigate some of that by using a more formal branch/merge request structure. Speaking of which, there is now a beta site which will be where more substantial updates exist first. I wanted to have a beta subdomain to avoid commits that break something on the main site, and to have a place to 'test' mobile layout on my own phone, rather than only relying on the browser's emulation. Smaller updates, such as active games and such will still go directly to the main site however. In general though, I expect promotion from beta to main to be relatively fast, so the main site really should be what is used.
